Questions:


  1. What about Ancient Greek culture & values is reflected in their beliefs towards the underworld? 
  2. Do you recognize any similarities between the Greek's beliefs towards death and the underworld and those which are held in your own religion?
  3. The Journey of the soul is described to be an elaborate process, why do you think that is? Why can't it be more simple?
  4. Looking back (to The Epic of Gilgamesh) this will be the 2nd text in which the protagonist journey to the underworld to confront death, why do you the hero "needs" to visit the underworld?


        1.   The Ancient Greek values and cultures reflect in their beliefs of the underworld because, part of their cultural beliefs is their gods the underworld connects to the gods because the god Hades rules the underworld like the gods Zeus, and Poseidon. 

        2.   Some similarities between the Greek's beliefs towards death and other religions are that, every religion has their own version of hell and, the person who rules it. The way the underworld is similar to other religions is because, the underworld is where most people go after death and, there they decide weather a person should go to join the gods in Mount Olympus or, should stay and suffer in the underworld.This is similar to other religions, for example Christianity, the process is in someway pretty similar because, the day you die God is the judge to see if you should stay in heaven or go to hell where the devil rules. Both are very similar because, both have judges who determine weather or not you go to a evil place after death or an amazing place after death. 

       3.    The journey after death is a long process because, the three judges Rhadamanthus, Minos, and Aeacus  have to look at the deeds that the mortals did on Earth and decided weather or not they should stay in the underworld or be sent to a neutral part of the underworld ,or if they committed heroic act if they should be sent to Mount Olympus. 

        4.     I think the hero needs to visit the underworld because, maybe they need some advice of what they should do in some situations from people who have been in those situations ,or have an understanding of what to do in situations. Another reason hero's would need to be sent to the underworld could be because, they have an idea on how to help the mortal in a situation on Earth.

Victoria Escamilla 3/8/19 English 9             High school students should read the American "classics" because, it helps students in this generation to  appreciate literature,and reading since current day literate isn't how it used to be unlike classic literature which shows how old literature used to be. For example on the second page of the article in the 3rd paragraph it states." In this age of declining literacy, a primary function of school should be first to ignite an appreciation for reading. Once students love to read, they will be more likely and able to give a work of literature from another time, place and culture a try". Another reason high school students should read the "classics" is because, it will help students to improve upon their reading skills, and there love for reading.
