His family was from Maycomb County originally, his mother worked for a photographer in Meridian, had entered his picture in a Beautiful Child contest and won five dollars. She gave the money to Dill, who went to the picture show twenty times on it. (11) In the film, Dill must relate everything through gesture and dialogue: I’m little, but I’m old. Folks call me Dill. I’m from Meridian, Mississippi, and I’m spending two weeks next door with my Aunt Stephanie. My mama works for a photographer in Meridian. She entered my picture in the Beautiful Child Contest and won five dollars. She gave the money to me and I went to the picture show twenty times with it.
